Rumi

Published on November 22, 2006

Not Christian or Jew or
Muslim, not Hindu,
Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen.
Not any religion

or cultural system. I am
not from the east
or the west, not
out of the ocean or up

from the ground, not
natural or ethereal, not
composed of elements at all.
I do not exist,

am not an entity in this
world or the next,
did not descend from
Adam and Eve or any

origin story. My place is
the placeless, a trace
of the traceless.
Neither body or soul.

I belong to the beloved,
have seen the two
worlds as one and
that one
call to and know,

first, last, outer, inner,
only that breath breathing

human being.

On the day I die, when I’m being carried
toward the grave, don’t weep. Don’t say,

He’s gone! He’s gone. Death has nothing
to do with going away. The sun sets and

the moon sets, but they’re not gone.
Death is a coming together. The tomb

looks like a prison, but it’s really
release into union. The human seed goes

down in the ground like a bucket into
the well where Joseph is. It grows and

comes up full of some unimagined beauty.
Your mouth closes here and immediately

opens with a shout of joy there.

What Goes Around

If kindness were your daily food
Hunger would indeed elude
And acceptance was the air you breathe
With every breath comes gratitude
Then in some distant future be
The seed you’d sown eternally.

Essence

Published on January 23, 2006

Essence

What begins a fruit or flower
Surely must be seed.
Looked closely under scrutiny,
Is not a seed indeed!
The particles which make it up
and spaces in between,
When looked at even smaller,
Can hardly ‘er be seen.
When scientists can break it down
Into matter much less grand,
The spaces that are nothingness
Seem ever to expand.
What is this space, this emptiness
That one can’t put to test?
The beauty of a petal
The juice of peach’s’ best?
Where is the flower, what is the fruit,
If beginnings are apparent?
What are we then, before we’re here?
Our stuff that is inherent.
If our code’s invisible, what else that isn’t shown
Is the source of life, that stuff, that what
The essence yet unknown?
I know it yet, can one be sure
They know the code, unbroken?
The Truth, the answer, the secret of life,
One thing that’s yet unspoken
The mystery may haunt us all
We’ll question to the end,
What is life’s’ source, and do we care?
We seem to waste and spend.
Hold tight! I will wait quietly,
But never feeling fear
That I don’t know the knowing of
The Truth eluding us, so dear,
The secret’s out…so close…now wait
I’ll tell you how I live
Filled with Love, life’s’ energy
So much of, yet to give.
Don’t squander this, and cherish that
So eternally you’ll be
The precious nothing in us all
The stuff that sets us free!

Socrates…Quote

Published on December 18, 2005

I decided that it was not wisdom that enabled [poets] to write their poetry, but a kind of instinct or inspiration, such as you find in seers and prophets who deliver all their sublime messages without knowing in the least what they mean…Socrates

Rumi Poem…Be with those who help your being

Published on December 16, 2005

Be with those who help your being.
Don’t sit with indifferent people, whose breath
comes cold out of their mouths.
Not these visible forms, your work is deeper.

A chunk of dirt thrown in the air breaks to pieces.
If you don’t try to fly,
and so break yourself apart,
you will be broken open by death,
when it’s too late for all you could become.

Leaves get yellow. The tree puts out fresh roots
and makes them green.
Why are you so content with a love that turns you yellow?

Little things of Joy

Published on December 2, 2005

Little Things of Joy

Surely a million words have expressed
That first brush with love,
The last or the best
Snowflakes and rainstorms
New babies on the way
Graduations, Anniversaries
And the birth of a new day
Red sunsets and purple skies
Grandparents and hugs
Nights out with the girls or guys
A child’s jar of bugs
A job well done
A race that was won
Dinner for two, four, or six
With people you care for and love
Nights of jokes, kicks, and flicks
All of these things have been expressed
By many a poet or writer,
But to say them will bring
New life to each thing
And makes our world so much brighter.

For God

Published on December 1, 2005

Your loving arms hold me tightly, though I cannot see them

How can I be weak?

Your invisible smile renews me

How can I fail?

Your warmth fills me up

How can I be touched by the cold?

Your soft words whisper the direction

How can I be lost?

Your presence walks beside me always

How can I be lonely?

Your divinity fills me with grace

How can I live without my soul being forever at peace?

Divine Kiss

Published on September 19, 2005

One day the dismal sky opened

And a light

A beautiful beam of light

Struck my face

Once more

Kissed by God

How lucky I am!

Impermanance

Published on September 8, 2005

Impermanence

Once we were touched by what seemed so true
But it only lasted a moment or two
And what if it took a lifetime to see
That all time is a slice of eternity?
Then a day, a week, a year or more,
Would be like walking through the very same door.
Love would be with us always and we would know
The ones who truly love us so.
Life….you seem to go so fast
That even love appears not to last
But love cannot be destroyed by times’ cruel ruse
So with this thought in mind we have nothing to lose.

Love’s Time

Published on June 21, 2005

I live in love’s time with
no fear of the future
or regrets of the past
Now is all that matters
And present moments that last

A speck of time continuum
Magical moments of here
Live flickering candles
Of love which is near

Genesis of present joys
Destined to deliver
Moments of ecstasy
In life’s flowing river

Holding the breaths
Which experience grace
As I look at time’s treasures
Of love’s perfect face

Eternity’s Secret

Published on May 31, 2005

Eternity’s Secret

How far from the light we’ve strayed

Beyond Creator’s unlocked door

And dizzying rounds we turn-

Clueless, as before.

The Gate we seek is open, and far too long we’ve stayed,

Continuing eternal in previous plans we’ve made.

The secrets been forgotten, though the keys to just one lock

Have certainly begotten-The place we stand and knock.

The memory escapes us of who we really are

And searching we continue, running near and far

Patiently It awaits us, our imminent return

No control have we, been allowed to earn

So very simple really—The Truth so few will know

And frightened into Darkness, we all resist to go

Once Home again remembering what all this was for

Experiencing and Knowledge and Love forever more

Merging with Divine light at last all is revealed

As with God, our Creator, nothing is concealed

All of it continues as It always was

No beginning and no ending

Just eternal Cause.
